KHAR: Violence continued in Bajaur as two men were killed in separate terror incidents in different areas of the volatile district on Sunday.
Officials said a man, identified as Said Dawar, was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in the Asil Targhao Siah Maina area of Barang tehsil.
The incident has created fear and panic among the people in the area.
Confirming the incident, the police said that they had initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the blast.
In another incident, a local social worker named Malik Zia Salarzai was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Kohi area of Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur.
According to officials, armed men opened fire on Malik Zia Salarzai, killing him on the spot.
Soon after the incident, the police personnel rushed to the scene, collected evidence, and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers.
The officials added that the victim’s father, Malik Fachai, had also been killed in a similar fashion by unknown gunmen a few years ago.
Meanwhile, police successfully defused explosive material planted by suspected miscreants in the Salarzai area, officials said.
Officials said a Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) team acted on the directions of District Police Officer Bajaur, Muhammad Khalid Khan, and recovered an anti-personnel mine from Batalmali in the jurisdiction of Salarzai Police Station. The explosive device was safely defused on site through a carefully executed operation.
Authorities said the swift response prevented a potential major tragedy and ensured the safety of the local population.
The DPO praised the professionalism and prompt action of the BDU team, stating that the police force remains fully committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens.
