NOWSHERA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Mian Khaliqur Rahman on Monday rejected the allegations made by his Punjab counterpart regarding the supply of fake medicines to the hopsitals, calling them baseless, misleading and contrary to the facts.
Talking to reporters, he said that making such claims without proper investigation was irresponsible and created unnecessary panic among the people. He added that the Punjab health minister had been misinformed by his own department.
The minister said that procurement of medicines in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was carried out through a transparent and integrated system under the Medicine Coordination Cell, where drugs were purchased directly from registered companies, leaving no room for third parties or middlemen.
He clarified that the allegedly fake medicine recovered in Punjab was not part of KP’s approved list and lacked mandatory official details, clearly indicating that it was counterfeit. He emphasised that all medicines in KP undergo proper laboratory testing before being supplied, and only quality-approved drugs were allowed in government hospitals.
Criticising the Punjab government, he said that instead of addressing the serious issue of fake drug manufacturing within its own province, it was attempting to shift blame onto Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The minister reiterated that there was no evidence of fake medicines being supplied or used in public hospitals in KP, and assured that the government would not compromise on patient safety or the quality of medicines.
