ALPURI: Continuous rainfall over the past several days has caused disruption across Shangla district, triggering landslides in multiple areas and raising water levels in local rivers and streams with farmers fearing losses.
Key roads, including the Alpuri-Bisham and Alpuri-Swat routes, have been badly affected due to landslides and falling rocks.Large amounts of debris and stones have blocked sections of these highways, disrupting traffic flow and creating difficulties for commuters. While some major roads have been partially restored, several link roads remain closed.
The district has been experiencing rain for the third consecutive day, accompanied by strong, cold winds that have sharply reduced temperatures. The cold wave has intensified weather conditions across the valley, while light snowfall has also been reported in upper mountainous areas.
Severe hailstorms, along with the rains, have caused heavy damage to orchards and the agriculture sector.Blossoms on fruit trees have been completely destroyed, raising serious concerns about the upcoming harvest season. Farmers fear significant losses, as the damage may greatly impact fruit production this year.
The adverse weather has also disrupted daily life. Increased water flow in streams, seasonal nullahs, waterfalls, and natural springs has created a risk of flooding in low-lying areas. In some places, water has reached roads, making transportation difficult and dangerous.
District authorities responded promptly, deploying heavy machinery to clear debris and restore major roads.Several main routes have been reopened, but work is still ongoing on affected link roads. Officials say efforts are being made to reopen all roads as soon as possible.Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official updates as unstable weather conditions continue across the district.
