MINGORA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed on Saturday visited Malakand Division where he reviewed the overall security situation, maintenance of peace and measures for the promotion of tourism.
Malakand Commissioner Masood Ahmad, Regional Police Officer (RPO), Malakand, Syed Fida Hussain Shah, District Police Officer (DPO), Swat, Muhammad Umar Khan along with other senior police officials welcomed the IGP upon his arrival.
Chairing a high-level meeting of all district police chiefs of the Malakand Range, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed issued clear directives, saying that no compromise would be made on law and order in Malakand Division.
He directed that intelligence-based operations against criminals and terrorist elements be further intensified and emphasised the use of modern technology to ensure lasting peace.
Highlighting the importance of tourism, the provincial police chief stated that Malakand Division was one of the most scenic areas of the country, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. He instructed officials to ensure foolproof security arrangements at tourist destinations and to establish facilitation desks staffed by courteous personnel to assist visitors.
“Tourism is the lifeline of the country’s development, and every possible measure will be taken to ensure the safety of tourists,” he remarked.
Instructions were also issued to ensure foolproof security at tourist sites, establishment of facilitation desks for guidance, and deployment of courteous personnel.
The participants were later given a detailed briefing on tourism promotion, security of domestic and foreign tourists and the overall law and order situation. During the visit, the IGP also inaugurated the IGP Suite in Fizzagat, Swat.
Later, while addressing a grand jirga held at the Commissioner’s Office, he said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police would not hesitate to make any sacrifice for the establishment of peace and stability.
He said that sustainable peace was not possible without public cooperation and stressed the need to further strengthen trust between the police and the public.
