LAHORE:The Lahore district administration Tuesday sealed 16 shops and arrested 17 individuals during a large-scale crackdown on profiteering and hoarding, conducted on the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister to provide relief to citizens and ensure price stability.

During the citywide campaign, authorities carried out 6,016 inspections across vegetable and fruit markets as well as major bazaars. Fines totaling Rs353,000 were imposed on violators for overcharging and other irregularities.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Ijaz directed all Assistant Commissioners (ACs), PERA force personnel, and 90 price control magistrates to remain active in the field and continue indiscriminate action against lawbreakers. He emphasised that no leniency would be shown to profiteers or hoarders, and strict monitoring of the supply chain is underway to prevent artificial price hikes.
