PESHAWAR: Police have been put on high alert across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after recent clashes along the border with Afghanistan, officials said on Friday.
As part of enhanced security measures, anti-drone guns have been deployed at key security posts in the outskirts of major cities, while strict checking has been initiated at all entry and exit points.
Major hospitals have also been put on high alert while leaves of all the staff have been cancelled. Pakistani forces clashed with Afghan forces in different places on the border between the two countries. Several hideouts of terrorists were also destroyed in Afghanistan by the Pakistani forces.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police force has been specially alerted in districts sharing the border with Afghanistan as well as the provincial capital, Peshawar, due to the tense situation. “In the wake of tension on Pak-Afghan border, the Capital City Police has been put on high security alert across the district,” a spokesman for the force said.
The official added that strong coordination is underway with other law enforcement agencies so that any untoward situation can be dealt with in a timely manner.“Security at sensitive places and mosques was kept particularly tight on the occasion of prayers. All senior and junior officers were directed to monitor the security arrangements in their areas,” said an official.
Police patrolling has been increased to ensure security at commercial centers as special mobile teams have been formed.“Armoured vehicles, elite force, city patrolling squad, Ababeel Squad and local police are patrolling the main highways. Strict surveillance and effective checking of vehicles and motorcyclists is underway during snap checking,” said the official.
