PESHAWAR: Terrorist attacks on police and security forces have witnessed a surge in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly southern districts of the province, during Ramazan.Also, a large number of terrorists were also eliminated in operations in different districts of the province.
Security has been upgraded in different districts while intelligence-based search operations and snap-checking on roads have been increased. All the district police officers have been directed to further beef up security in their respective areas.
Many towns in the southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are volatile for the last almost five years. However, the last few days witnessed more violent attacks. In the latest attack in Kohat district, a deputy superintendent of police along with seven people, including cops and a civilian, was martyred in the attack on Tuesday.
A policeman was martyred in Wana, while a middle school was blown up and torched in Birmal, area of South Waziristan Lower. A day earlier, a post of the Federal Constabulary was targeted by the quadcopter in nearby Karak district.
When the five wounded FC personnel were being shifted to hospital, their ambulances came under attack. Three FC soldiers were martyred in the attack while four others were wounded. Three rescue workers were also wounded. The terrorist set two ambulances on fire later.
The same day, a quadcopter attacked the house of an elder in Lakki Marwat, Inamullah Khan, who was leading local lashkar to maintain law and order. A lieutenant colonel was among two soldiers martyred in a suicide attack in Bannu while 11 security personnel were martyred in a terrorist attack in Bajaur last week. All these incidents happened within a week.
