KHAR: A child was killed and eight others sustained injuries when a dud mortar shell exploded in Kardok area of Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur district, Rescue 1122 officials said on Sunday.
They said that the injured included eight children and one woman. All victims were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in Khar for medical treatment.
It was learnt that children had found a dud mortar shell and brought it home. The device reportedly exploded suddenly, injuring people present inside the house. Rescue officials confirmed that a child identified as Anas was killed and eight others and two women were injured in the blast.
The injured included Wajid, Yaman, Jawad, Shahid, a minor girl and four women. All injured were immediately transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar for emergency medical care.
It may be mentioned that similar incidents had occurred in tribal districts in the past due to unexploded ordnance and leftover explosives.
