Bid to smuggle huge quantity of narcotics foiled in Khyber

PESHAWAR: Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department said on Wednesday a major success had been achieved in the ongoing province-wide crackdown against narcotics.

The department in a communication said the crackdown was in line with the zero-tolerance policy of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, and on the directives of Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan.

It said a large-scale operation was conducted in the remote areas of Khyber district, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, during which an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of different narcotics was foiled.

During the operation, a total of 718,060 grams of narcotics were recovered and seized, including 615,500 grams of bhang, 18,100 grams of ice, 1,160 grams of heroin, 13,300 grams of opium, 70,000 grams of charas, and 18 ecstasy tablets.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Saud Khan Gandapur (Provincial In-Charge, Excise Intelligence Bureau) and Majid Khan (Excise and Taxation Officer, Narcotics Control).

The operational team, led by Majid Hussain (SHO, Excise Police Station Khyber) and Waheed Akbar Khan (EIB Mobile Squad) including other officials, conducted the action with the support of other law enforcement agencies.

The recovered narcotics were taken into custody and a case was registered at Excise Police Station Khyber for further investigation against the accused involved.Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan, issued clear directives that strict implementation of the zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and sale would be ensured in all circumstances.
