Kashmir has remained under Indian control since October 1947. Despite decades of demands for freedom, Kashmiri voices remain unheard. In Pakistan, February 5 is observed as Kashmir Solidarity Day and marked as a public holiday to express support for the Kashmiri people.

Although officially recognised in 2004, the day was observed informally even before that. The Kashmir issue is not only political but also a human rights concern, and greater awareness, particularly among students, is essential so future generations understand the struggle and continue to stand with the Kashmiri people.
