Retired and forgotten

I write to expose the shameful treatment of retired employees of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, who are suffering due to criminal negligence. These senior citizens, who dedicated decades to serving Pakistan’s academic institutions, have not received their pension payments for five months. For retirees, pensions are not optional benefits but lifelines for purchasing essential medicines, managing debt and affording basic necessities such as food and utilities.

In October 2024, the Federal Ombudsman explicitly directed the university management to resolve pension arrears, yet months later nothing has changed. Desperate retirees were forced to protest outside the Karachi Press Club and appeal to the prime minister for intervention, a humiliation no senior citizen should endure. Immediate action is required to release pending payments.
