KHAR: As part of an ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, the police in Salarzai on Friday foiled a major drug smuggling attempt and arrested a suspect after recovering 12 kilograms of opium during a raid in Bajaur district, officials said.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted under the supervision of Circle DSP, Uthman Salarzai, Jamal Shah and led by SHO Salarzai Abdul Razaq. During the operation at a suspicious location, officials said, the police recovered 12,000 grams of opium from the possession of the accused, identified as Fazal Maula, a resident of Chelargam, Salarzai.
The suspect was arrested on the spot and shifted to Salarzai Police Station, where a case was registered against him under the Narcotics Act. Further legal proceedings are underway.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bajaur, Waqas Rafiq, appreciated the police team for the successful operation, stating that strict monitoring of suspected locations involved in drug trafficking was continuing across the district.
Meanwhile, police have also intensified their crackdown against usury across the district. In a separate operation led by DSP Jamal Shah, Salarzai police arrested two more suspects involved in illegal money lending.
