ISLAMABAD: The wife of senior journalist with ‘The News’ and former president of National Press Club Shakeel Anjum, passed away on Saturday.
The management and staff of ‘The News’ and the journalist community expressed their deep sorrow over the passing of Shazia Shakeel and extend their heartfelt condolences to Shakeel Anjum and the bereaved family.
She was laid to rest at H-11 graveyard. The funeral of the deceased was attended by a large number of members of the journalist community, civil society, lawyers, political and social figures.
The funeral was attended by IG Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, President Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) Tariq Ali Virk, President NPC Azhar Jatoi, former presidents Tariq Chaudhry, Anwar Raza, vice presidents Ehteshamul Haq and Shah Muhammad, and other office bearers.
Former RIUJ presidents Abid Abbasi, Aamir Sajjad Syed, senior vice president RIUJ Raja Bashir Usmani, acting general secretary Gulzar Khan, and member of the governing body Ghufran Chishti were also present on the occasion.
The ‘Qul’ for the departed soul will be held tomorrow (Monday) at 4 p.m. at House no. 550, Street 33, Sector I-8/2, Islamabad.
