HYDERABAD: A woman with disability was among the supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who arrived at the Hyderabad Press Club on Saturday to welcome Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

Sitting in a wheelchair, holding a picture of Imran Khan in her lap and wearing another photograph of herself with Imran Khan around her neck, Saba Memon told The News that she had come to the press club not for Afridi alone as she intended to participate in the movement for Khan’s freedom.

“I have come as a soldier to help secure Khan’s release,” she said.

Saba explained that she had been a follower of Khan since 1996, when fundraising was launched for Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital.

Later, she formally joined the PTI as a party worker. During various phases of the political movement, she got several opportunities to speak with Khan and discuss political issues with him.

The photograph hanging around Saba’s neck, in which she is seen sitting with Khan, was taken at a time when she was completely healthy.

However, over the past four years, she was afflicted by paralysis and several other illnesses, which left her disabled. Despite those health issues, she said her determination and morale remained high.

Saba said that if Afridi was the commander of the movement for Khan’s release, she was Afridi’s soldier.

She demanded that Khan be released from jail so that he could once again return to power through elections and eradicate poverty from the country.
