This week, upcoming model Mahleena Carim shares her beauty secrets with our readers…
The fashion industry is one where opportunities can come unexpectedly, but building a lasting career takes time, consistency and a willingness to learn. For many young models, finding that balance between work, education and personal growth becomes an important part of the journey.
For Mahleena Carim, her path into modelling began after she moved to Pakistan from Scotland during the pandemic. She was first scouted by designer Ansab Jahangir and made her debut with a campaign alongside Ayeza Khan. She later stepped away from modelling to complete her bachelor’s degree before returning to the industry full-time in late 2025.
Since her return, Mahleena has joined Zinc Talent and worked with mentors including Tabesh Khoja and Shahbaz Shazi. She has since been part of campaigns for established designers including Shehla Chatoor, Sania Maskatiya and Ali Xeeshan, as well as walked at LAAM Fashion Week.
For now, modelling remains her main focus. Acting, however, is something she hopes to explore in the future. With a background in high-school theatre, she sees it as another creative avenue she would like to pursue when the timing is right. This week she shares her beauty secrets with our readers…
Do you remember when you first fell in love with makeup?
During the YouTube ‘Get Ready With Me’ era. In high school, my friends and I would spend lunch breaks trying different eye looks on each other. It was so much fun.
What’s your go-to makeup look?
I usually keep it simple. Concealer, mascara and a soft pink lip tint are enough to make me feel put-together.
A ritual you swear by before stepping out into the sun?
Sunscreen is non-negotiable. In extreme heat, I also cover up with lightweight scarves.
What would be your holy-grail skincare advice?
Hydration and consistency. I drink plenty of water and try not to overload my skin with too many products.
What are your top picks for perfumes and lipsticks?
I love clean fragrances with a hint of oud. Thomas Kosmala ‘No. 4’ and Versace ‘Eros Pour Femme’ are favourites. For lips, I love soft pinks and warm nudes, especially Zero Makeup’s ‘Vintage Pink’.
How do you choose the right foundation for your skin tone?
I actually prefer using less foundation. I’ll usually go for bronzer and a bright under-eye. If I need more coverage, I mix two shades.
After a long day, how do you cleanse your face?
I never sleep in makeup. I double-cleanse, use a salicylic acid toner and finish with a rich moisturiser.
Hair damage is every girl’s nightmare. How do you tackle it?
Heat protectant is essential because of how much styling we do on set. On my days off, I avoid heat completely and oil my hair.
What are your go-to tips for maintaining healthy hair?
Eat well, stay hydrated and get regular trims. I also try not to over-style my hair when I’m not working.
What does your diet look like to keep that glow going?
I try to eat balanced meals with plenty of protein, fruits and vegetables, and keep processed food to a minimum.
Is there a cosmetic product you simply can’t live without?
Concealer, without a doubt. It’s a lifesaver after early call times!
When it comes to makeup brands, which ones top your list?
MAC is a favourite. Their products are reliable and work well for both everyday makeup and shoots.
What essentials do you always carry in your beauty bag?
Lip balm, my Zero Makeup palette, a compact mirror, hair clips, moisturiser and deodorant.
Is there anything that scares you when applying makeup?
Overdoing it! I prefer makeup that enhances my features rather than covers them.
Not everyone can afford high-end makeup. What’s your advice for them?
You really don’t need expensive makeup. There are so many good affordable brands. I’d invest in good skincare and a few products you actually use.
How often do you pamper yourself with a salon facial?
Not very often. I prefer keeping things simple, but I’ll get a clinical facial with Dr OBT every few months.
Who are the stylists that inspire you?
I’ve worked with so many talented people, but Tabesh Khoja is definitely someone I admire. We’ve created some of my favourite looks together.
What does your everyday skincare routine look like?
Very simple: cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning. At night, I cleanse, use hyaluronic acid and toner, then finish with lip balm.
Where do you usually shop for makeup?
I stick to verified retailers and official brand stores. I’m very particular about buying authentic products.
What’s your take on whitening creams?
I don’t believe fair skin should be considered the standard of beauty. Every skin tone is beautiful.
Finally, what does the word ‘beauty’ mean to you?
Confidence. Being comfortable with who you are and carrying yourself with authenticity.
