Arshan Ali Khan

Many people enter the fashion industry with years of planning or industry connections. For model and fitness athlete Arshan Ali Khan, the journey took a different route. Before stepping onto the runway, he was focused on graphic design, sketching and building a creative career behind a computer screen.

A Karachi native, Arshan graduated from the University of Karachi and later studied Graphic and Communication Design at ARENA Multimedia. While working as a designer, he unexpectedly found himself in front of the camera for a Dunkin’ Donuts social media campaign, an experience that opened the door to modelling.

Coming from a modest family with no links to the fashion world, he never imagined a career in the industry. His big break came when he was discovered by the team of renowned stylist Nabila, leading to his runway debut at Pakistan Fashion Week. Since then, he has worked with brands including Outfitters, Gul Ahmed, Ideas, ONE and Breakout.

Alongside modelling, Arshan pursued fitness professionally and represented Pakistan at the United World Sports & Fitness Federation (UWSFF) Championship in Thailand in 2024, where he won a gold medal. This week, he shares his likes and dislikes with our readers…

Who encouraged you to pursue modelling?

My sister. She was the one who really encouraged me to get into modelling.

How did you get your big break?

I initially thought I would need to attend a modelling school, but today social media is a powerful tool for artists, models and actors. My first major breakthrough came when a brand called Threads contacted me through social media.

The project that changed your career?

A campaign for Aamir Adnan called Baran. It was a major turning point and opened many new opportunities for me.

The toughest shoot you’ve done so far?

A campaign for ONE at a shipbreaking yard. It was shot during the peak of summer in Ramazan, so I was fasting. I had to stand barefoot on scorching rocks, the makeup kept melting and the clothes got dirty. It was the toughest shoot of my career.

What keeps you busy besides modelling?

I run a digital marketing company and am also focusing on fitness modelling, including opportunities in Thailand.

Your biggest asset?

My talent, hard work and belief in myself. In this industry, knowing your worth is everything.

Your pillar of strength?

My father. After my mother left when I was 11, he stepped up and became an incredible single parent.

Your best trait?

My willingness to take on challenges. I enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone and pushing my limits.

Your worst trait?

Overthinking. I tend to analyse situations too much.

Your current obsession?

Maintaining my fitness regime. It’s a lifestyle and discipline I live by.

One habit you’d like to change?

I would like to change my habit of sleeping late. I’m working on building a healthier routine and becoming more of a morning person.

Who inspires you the most in the entertainment industry?

Fahad Mustafa. His journey from an actor to one of the industry’s most successful entertainers and producers is truly inspiring.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee, without a doubt.

Your ideal party scene?

Good company, genuine conversations and a close circle of friends.

Your proudest moment?

Winning a gold medal in Thailand as a fitness athlete. Representing Pakistan on an international stage was an unforgettable achievement.

Your biggest turn-off?

Double standards. I have little patience for hypocrisy.

Any regrets?

I wish I had explored international education and global opportunities earlier in life.

If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would it be?

Bill Gates. I’d love to experience how he thinks, leads and makes decisions on a global scale.

Your biggest mentor?

Social media. It’s constantly evolving and has taught me adaptability, creativity and resilience.

A cause close to your heart?

Education. I believe real empowerment and lasting social change begin with learning and access to quality education.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

There’s acting on the cards. I’m waiting for the right opportunity and roles that allow me to showcase my full potential as a performer.
