Dear Editor,
I read the issue of August 14 online, as I live in Dubai, and was a bit disappointed because instead of focusing on the Pakistan Movement and the story of its birth, you published a story. I am very appreciative of the sacrifices being made by our brave armed forces, but I still think you should have done something more to make young people realise how fortunate they are to be born in an independent country. There should have been a tribute to the leaders of the Pakistan Movement. I loved all the regular segments, and the interview with Muhammad Abdullah Khan by Asif Khan was enjoyable to read.

Dear Ed,
‘Do exams really matter?’ by Iqra Fatima (14 August issue) was thought-provoking. I think the examination system in our country is outdated and should be revamped so as to reward merit and intelligence instead of testing how good students are at rote learning. In the same issue, the cover story, ‘The promise’, was really good. May God keep our country safe, always. ‘The hidden struggles of student life’ by Muhammad Irtaza (August 21 issue) was a good read. All I would like to add is that these ‘hidden’ struggles are no longer hidden. Unfortunately, people still don’t care and expect students to somehow make it without being visibly disturbed or depressed. I have been missing Amna Ameer’s poems. They are always so hauntingly beautiful! Keep up the good work!

Hi,
‘Tea: how we became so fond of it’ by Zohaa Shakeel (August 21 issue) was a very informative read. Tea is a staple of every subcontinent home, and we are very careful and mindful of which tea we buy, but reading how the poor people of Pakistan and India were gulled rankles. It also reminds me of the Boston Tea Party, where the Americans famously dumped the beverage as they didn’t want to pay the exorbitant taxes imposed on them by the British. History is fascinating, so I urge you to make it a regular feature of Us.
