Who Ever Loved
That Loved Not
At First Sight?

By Christopher Marlowe

(from Hero and Leander)

It lies not in our power to love, or hate,

For will in us is over-rulde by fate.

When two are stript long ere the course begin,

We wish that one should lose, the other win.

And one especially doo we affect,

Of two gold Ingots like in each respect,

The reason no man knowes, let it suffise,

What we behold is censur’d by our eyes.

Where both deliberat, the love is slight,

Who ever lov’d, that lov’d not at first sight?

Liturgy of wait

By Majda Ulfat

Tomorrow is scary and uncertain.

Today holds sway over me.

My burdened heart wants to rush and attain,

But I must restrain, I must refrain.

For I have to wait.

Wait patiently for my answers.

Wait faithfully, like parched earth

waits for rain.

Wait beautifully,

like flowers waiting for spring to bloom,

Fighting all the darkness and gloom.

I have to wait like no other.

I have to wait as if I’m praying,

As if I am believing, and thus seeing.

I have to wait

As if miracles are waiting.

I have to wait

As if you are waiting for me too.

Confined

By Ummara Rukhsar

Confined... trapped... ignored... shunned...

My voice, my ideas, my thoughts

They trigger something in you.

It unsettles you.

So you try to silence me.

I feel your hand around my throat.

I shout. I wail. I scream.

Yet I remain unheard.

Life is a maze

By Esha Bakht

The days are sombre.

I feel gloomy.

The mind feels clouded.

It’s all dreamy.

There is no clarity in my

actions.

I am indecisive.

There is no narrator of

my story.

There is silence.

Sad are my days.

Life is a maze.

You will feel lost.

Once you take the wrong turn.

You will get entangled,

In a never-ending run.

Monsoon memories

By Abid Agha

The rain returned the way old feelings do

soft at first, then all at once.

Two hearts, once lost in separate storms,

found shelter again beneath the same pouring sky.

Raindrops stitched the silence between us,

each one a memory falling back into place.

We didn’t speak

We didn’t need to.

Your smile shimmered in the monsoon light,

warm as the earth after its first touch of rain.

And for a moment,

we weren’t strangers healing alone

we were the ‘us’ we once knew,

rediscovered in the rhythm

of a rainy evening

and memories that refused to fade.

When love feels like the first downpour

Pure, quiet, magical, and unexpected.
