Your value isn’t defined by your GPA

SPEAK OUT

A man once got fired from a newspaper position when his boss told him he “wasn’t creative enough.” That same man went bankrupt with his first business. And when he pitched the idea of an entire feature-length animated movie, people genuinely laughed at him. Critics called it “Disney’s Folly.” Nobody believed audiences would sit through ninety minutes of animation. In fact, many of them believed that the only thing longer than the runtime would be the queue for refunds. And that man (as you’ve probably guessed) was the legendary Walt Disney.

Just imagine if Walt Disney had listened to them and walked away right then. Seriously ... Mickey Mouse, Snow White and Disneyland would never have won a single fan, and the childhood memories of millions would never have crossed borders and united people.

So did he walk away? No! He turned every single rejection into a legacy instead of a loss.

Now measure that against your own struggles. So what if you failed an exam, had a bumpy semester or a GPA that wasn’t what you’d hoped for and cried over? Does that really compare to bankruptcy and public humiliation? Come on! Walt Disney lost his job, lost his money and got mocked publicly, and he still found a way to turn ashes into a castle.

So what does one bad result really mean? Does one bad inning lose the whole game?

Disney once said, “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” He treated huge, scary odds like a game worth playing instead of a wall worth dying behind.

Your value isn’t defined by your GPA

Students, what they don’t teach you in class is this: by the time you’re at a real job interview, nobody is pulling out your transcript and asking about your CGPA. Just imagine spending four years stressed out of your mind over a number that a majority of interviewers won’t even bother to bring up. What they actually care about is what you can build, what you can solve and how you think when the textbook fails you. Marks measure one test on one day. Skills measure everything you are destined for.

Let me offer another perspective: Picture your CGPA as a single burnt dish you made. You overcooked it, you threw it out and then you started over. Did the kitchen close down after one mistake? NOOO!! In fact, your cooking skills simply developed over years of practice, and not through one burnt meal. You were the cook. The burnt meal was just one attempt.

If your best friend came to you saying they wanted to die over a failed exam, you wouldn’t even entertain it. You’d tell them they’re loved, they’re worthy and that this isn’t the end. So why do you speak to yourself with the harshness you’d never use on someone you love?

Your value isn’t defined by your GPA

Remember, a transcript, a percentage, a result slip … they’re all just paperwork and printouts that someone will forget the moment they meet the real you. Walt Disney failed more times than most people even bother attempting. Genius is the courage to keep knocking on the door after failure slams it shut.

Just imagine if every student who ever felt this pressure decided to push through instead of giving up, simply because they remembered that their worth was never tied to a number. That’s the shift that needs to happen right now in your own mind.

Your life outshines any score. The world is still waiting for what only you can create, and your story is far from complete.

If you or anyone reading this is feeling consumed by this kind of pain, please reach out before it convinces you otherwise. In Pakistan, the Umang helpline (0311-7786264 / 0311-77UMANG) is available every day, and the person on the other end is ready to listen. And carry this with you: the weight gets lighter when you let someone else hold part of it.
