I was impressed by the cover story, ‘Blockchain: hello to the future’, by Zakeriya Ali in today’s Us (26 June issue). The article is highly relevant in the current rapidly changing economic landscape and offers young people valuable insight into how they can prepare for their future careers. It highlights the importance of understanding emerging technologies and adapting to new opportunities.
I also found Momina Ahmad’s article, ‘The blindfold of privilege’, very thought-provoking. Those who enjoy comfortable lives often fail to understand the hardships and struggles faced by the less fortunate. The article served as a timely reminder that privilege can sometimes prevent us from recognising the challenges experienced by others. Kudos to Momina for sharing her observations and encouraging readers to reflect on this important issue.

In the 19 June issue, I thoroughly enjoyed the cover story, ‘FIFA 2026: beyond the sports’, by Muhammad Omar Iftikhar. Pakistan possesses immense football talent which, unfortunately, remains largely untapped. If football authorities invest in these talented yet underprivileged youngsters by providing quality training programmes and opportunities, I am confident that Pakistan’s football standards will improve significantly. In the same issue, Mujtaba Sheikh’s interview, by Asif Khan, was an enjoyable read.

Humane treatment and ecological imperatives
Dear Editor,
Human life depends upon a balanced ecosystem in which animals play a vital role. Any abrupt decline in a species’ population can disturb ecological equilibrium and harm the environment. Therefore, attempts to eliminate species through indiscriminate human actions should be avoided. While some animals may occasionally pose risks to people, civilised societies address such challenges through scientific and humane measures rather than cruelty. Effective management of stray animals should include vaccination, sterilisation and monitoring programmes. Culling through poisoning or shooting is neither sustainable nor environmentally responsible.
The careless disposal of food waste in streets and residential areas attracts stray animals and increases the risk of accidents. Public awareness campaigns and responsible pet ownership can help minimise conflicts between humans and animals. A truly civilised society protects animals from unnecessary harm while preserving ecological balance through practical and compassionate solutions.
